Water/Sewer
Each municipality is responsible for its own water facilities and each has its own schedule of fees. Operation and hook-up charges vary with location and the amount of existing facilities (i.e., whether a tap has to be installed or activated). The city, town or village should be contacted for complete information.
Grow With the Flow
Development Authority of the North Country: Provides contract water and sewer services to Fort Drum from the City of Watertown, and water service to parts of Western Jefferson County from the City of Watertown. The Development Authority also has agreements with municipalities throughout Drum Country to operate and maintain their water and sewer facilities.
Jefferson County: The principal source of water and wastewater services is the City of Watertown Municipal System. The City’s water plant is rated at 15 million gallons per day (MGD). The wastewater plant has a capacity of 16.0 MGD. The county is also served by a number of smaller municipal water systems.
Lewis County: Current New York State Department of Health information appears to indicate that water is available for expansion in most communities. There is excess wastewater capacity in the Village of Lowville.
St. Lawrence County: Surface water supplies are readily available due to the number of springs, lakes and rivers throughout the area. These surface water supplies are utilized by the largest of the county’s industries, as well as the majority of municipalities. In most areas of St. Lawrence County, ground water supplies are also sufficient to accommodate the needs of municipal systems, private systems and industry. St. Lawrence also has 22 municipal wastewater treatment facilities.
Please contact your local municipality for more information on availability and rates.
